Listen to Bad Bunny's New Song About Kobe Bryant

Many Latinx celebs have paid tribute to NBA star Kobe Bryant after the news of his death in a helicopter crash on Sunday. Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny paid homage to the basketball legend through music, releasing a new song titled “6 Rings” in his honor. The track, which the trap singer shared on Instagram, starts off with sounds of people cheering for Bryant as the Lakers star played on the court and ends with Bryant thanking his fans. “Sometimes I wonder if I should respect the 10 commandments, and where is God at a time like this?” Bad Bunny sings, reflecting that, “life is short and can be taken away at the blink of an eye.”

The lyrics also explore the 25-year-old singer‘s admiration for the basketball pro, who was 41. “I still remember the first game of yours that I watched, a thousand emotions, you brought me to my feet many times,” the song says. “You taught me to do everything in life with passion and that in order to win you must have heart.”

The title is a reference to the five championship rings Bryant won in the NBA and the wedding ring “that gave him his marriage and daughters.” Bad Bunny sings of his heartbreak after learning that Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter GiGi died with him, but says he knows Gianna — who also loved basketball — went with him so “he wouldn’t play by himself in heaven.”

“Black Mamba forever, we will always remember you,” Bad Bunny sings at the end. The artist also shared a post on Instagram expressing how Bryant’s death had shaken him to his core.

“I would have never thought this would hurt me so much,” he wrote. “I still remember the first time I watched a basketball game when I was 7 years old with my dad and it was a game with this genius. From that day on, he became my favorite player x100pre! I have never mentioned him because he is not necessarily related to music, but this man has been an inspiration in many aspects for me to be who I am today. RIP Goat! Rest in peace! Thanks for inspiring me so much. Thanks for so many emotions. I feel so sad! A legend has left us, along with a beautiful creature and basketball rising star who was his daughter Gianna. Wow! It breaks my heart to know that I was going to meet you soon and spend time with you.”
