Manchester United and City given 48 extra hours to provide FA with accounts of Old Trafford bust-up

Manchester United and Manchester City have both been given another 48 hours to provide their accounts of the Old Trafford tunnel bust-up that saw Sunday’s derby descend into acrimony. The Manchester rivals had been due to provide their observations by 6pm on Wednesday but the Football Association, who are investigating the matter, has given the clubs an additional two days to compile their findings. They must now respond by 6pm on Friday. City coach Mikel Arteta was left with a cut above the eye in the skirmishes and United manager Jose Mourinho had milk and water thrown in his direction. Mourinho accused City of a lack of class and respect over the post-match celebrations that prompted the Portuguese to confront City players in the away dressing room after United’s 2-1 defeat that sparked the melee. But City manager Pep Guardiola insisted his side’s celebrations had not been over the top and that his players were following his instructions to ensure they enjoyed the moment.” A spokesman for the FA said: “Manchester United and Manchester City have both been given extra time to provide their observations following reports of an incident after Sunday’s game. They now have until 6pm on Friday 15 December.” Jose Mourinho and Romelu Lukaku were both involved in the incident Credit: AFP The bad blood continued to linger on Wednesday when Zlatan Ibrahimovic branded Guardiola the “most immature” manager he has worked with in his career and Mourinho renewed his criticism of referee Michael Oliver’s failure to award United a penalty against City. Ander Herrera was booked for diving under a challenge from Nicolas Otamendi that Mourinho felt was a foul on his midfielder. “We have been phenomenal at home this season, so we are not going to let a clear penalty, which was not given on Sunday, dampen our spirits,” the United manager said. Ibrahimovic did not see eye-to-eye with Guardiola during a season together at Barcelona in 2009 and the United striker has now accused the Catalan of excluding him from his plans after the Swede questioned his tactics. Zlatan Ibrahimovic played under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona Credit: AP “The first six months were perfect, then the manager changed system, tactics and it didn't work for me," Ibrahimovic told Sky Sports Italy. “I went to talk to him. I'm here to talk, if you think it's for another reason then we can't talk. I said: 'I believe that you are sacrificing some players for one player, [Lionel] Messi'. He said: 'I don't think this is the case but I understand what you say. I will take care of it, no problem, I will solve everything'. I thought it would be OK. The following game I was on the bench. I don't say anything, I work. “Second match bench again. I thought he solved it well and he was not talking to me or explaining. Third match bench. Then the fourth match comes and bench again. “I think something is strange. From that moment he stopped talking to me, looking at me. I go into a room and he walks out of it. He was not a bad person, but the most immature I've had because a man solves his problems.”
